World Book Night 2012 – my giveaway

Click on pic to order at Amazon.

Tonight is World Book Night and in the spirit of it*, I am giving away one book of my own choosing.  I was very impressed with the hugely enjoyable debut novel from Danny Miller**, so I am giving away a copy of his second in the series: The Gilded Edge which will be published on 17 May.  All you have to do to be the recipient is to leave a comment below to be entered into a draw.  This closes at midnight tonight.  You can enter from anywhere in the world.  Here’s the synopsis:

London 1965, and Vince Treadwell investigates the seemingly unrelated murders of a playboy aristocrat from Belgravia and a young black nurse from the wrong side of town.  It takes the detective to the illegal drinking dens of Notting Hill run by the self-styled Black Power leader, Michael X; the nightclubs of Soho owned by the legendary gangster, Billy Hill; and the exclusive gaming tables of the Montcler Club in Berkeley Square, where the blue bloods and power players of England gamble thousands on the turn of a card.  But as Vince Treadwell digs deeper he finds himself not only embroiled with a beautiful society girl, Isabel Saxmore-Blaine, but also a world of espionage and corruption where the underworld mixes easily with the aristocracy, and no one is innocent.

* I am not a subscriber to the current design of World Book Night.
** Danny Miller’s Kiss Me Quick was highly commended for the CWA John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award in 2011.  I reviewed it here.

Update 24/4: the winner of draw (by random number generation in Excel) was Booketta, who will be contacted by email.

Congratulations!

Many thanks to all who entered.

And we might do another one soon…

I haven’t come across this book. I’m giving out Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham.

Sounds like a great read, I’d love a chance to win it, thanks! Do you think ereaders/books will change the face of world book night? Hard to give away your book if you bought it on kindle😦

I don’t think it will in the near future, no. Many still prefer the physical object. Contrary to original opinion in the trade, the hardback is not suffering – indeed sales have gone up. Increases in ebook sales have accompanied a fall in paperback sales, although the extent of the ‘swap’ is not known as there are no overall reliable ebook sales figures at the moment. (Amazon not diclosing for example.)

I love a mystery. Have been addicted to them since I was a child! Always looking for new & interesting authors so would be so pleased to win this. Thanks for the info on his first book, will have a look at that as well.
