Voting for the ITV3 People’s Bestseller Dagger remains open until Friday 7 October at 9am. You can vote up to five times here. In the running are: Lee Child; Peter Robinson; David Baldacci; Mark Billingham and Peter James.
If he wins, Peter James has made a promise to his fans:
Needless to say, this prompted the very sudden appearance of Peter’s “two biggest fans”: Grace and Roy (until this morning known as Fluffy and Billy). Their conversation on their voting dilemma was overheard and recorded by Harry Pearce of MI5.
Roy: A Brit who now lives in New York and writes about a loner who arrives in towns to sort out problems.
Grace: A defector who writes about a loner who doesn’t have a cat? We can’t vote for him then. What about this Peter Robinson?
Roy: Another Brit defector. He lives in Canada and writes about DCI Banks.
Grace: Banks? We can’t vote for him! Nana Alma told us to stay away from banks as they’re always after your money and full of bad people. What about David Baldacci?
Roy: An American. Writes thrillers.
Grace: A native of the declawing country? Are you mad? This is getting tough now. Only two left. What about Mark Billingham?
Roy: Well, he’s a Brit who writes about DI Tom Thorne. But I understand he has a dog and loves country music.
Grace: Dog? Country music? No way. I hope you’ve saved the best for last, Roy.
Roy: Oh, you’ll like this one, Grace, it’s Mr Peter James. If he wins he’s promised all his fans fish and chips on Brighton pier.
Grace: Right. Where do we vote then?
Roy: Right here. And we can do it five times each.
Grace: Which way is Brighton?
Nana Alma should like to point out that you can vote for whoever you like. Harry Pearce has ensured that ‘Grace’ and ‘Roy’ are microchipped for tracking purposes, just in case they get lost on their long journey. Nana Alma hopes that if Peter James wins, he doesn’t take his dogs with him to the pier as Fluffy and Billy have not yet completed their self-defence course. She also looks forward to the safe return home of the errant two.
