It's a crime! (Or a mystery…)

Dr Who’s memory lane…

Back in the 1980s I sat my professional exams in a hall at the Temple of Peace and Health in Cardiff.  Then, it was full of desks and my imagination would never have run to it being used as a location for Nazis.  But last night’s Dr Who did just that, time-travelling back to the 1930s.  As is my custom these days, I could not follow the plot.  Luckily, back in the (late) 80s I had more joy with the exams.

Rhian – Interesting! I always like learning about those personal connections to places where films are made…

Margot and Rhian, I remember watching the film Lords of Discipline supposedly set in a military academy in Charleston, South Carolina, and puzzling when some scenes looked very familiar. It was filmed almost entirely in England with “Dixie” played by the Kneller Hall School of Music in Teddington, and the rest at Wellington College.

There were also scenes which used Senate House, Malet St, London, the University of London’s central HQ, which is ironic as it was the inspiration for Orwell’s Ministry of Truth in ‘1984’.
